Saturday filled with city Easter activities

The cities of Royston, Lavonia and Canon will celebrate Easter Saturday with individual activities.

Lavonia will host an event at its downtown Gazebo, Royston will hold its annual egg hunt at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post and Canon will hold an egg hunt at its city park.

Many churches will also hold sunrise services and special Easter services. For a complete list of church activies, see Page 4B.

Details on the city events are as follows:

• Lavonia Main Street and Downtown Development, Ferst Foundation and Bojangles will sponsor Easter activities at the Lavonia Gazebo  April 15 from 10 a.m. until noon.

Children will have an opportunity to have their pictures made with the Easter Bunny, as well as enjoy inflatables, face painting, candy and an Easter craft.

The Ferst Foundation will provide books and “story time” throughout the morning.

Twister the Clown will be a featured attraction  to design and make balloon animals.  

All of the children’s activities will be free and the first 200 will receive an additional Easter gift.

The Lavonia Farmers Market will also be open during the event. 

Spring produce, as well as homemade baked goods, handmade items, plants and eggs will be available for sale.

• Royston will hold its annual Easter Egg Hunt will be held April 15 at 10:30 a.m. in the field in front of the Royston Veterans of Foreign Wars Post on Highway 29. 

Thousands of eggs and many prizes will be awarded after the event. 

Co-sponsors are Lake Hartwell Shriners, Royston Masonic Lodge, Royston VFW and Royston Main Street and Downtown Development Authority.

The event is open to children ages 10 and under.

• The Canon Downtown Development Authority and Lake Hartwell Shriners will hold the Canon Easter Egg Hunt April 15 at 2 p.m. in Canon City Park.

The event is free.

Canon City Park is on Depot Street in Canon.

 

Church calendar

Lavonia United Methodist Church will hold Maundy Thursday services April 13 at 7 p.m. and Good Friday services April 14 at 7 p.m.  On Easter Sunday, services and activities begin at 7 a.m. with a Sunrise Service in the sanctuary, followed by a community breakfast in the fellowship hall at 7:30 a.m. Worship will be held at 8:45 a.m. and 11 a.m. Easter morning church members and guests are encouraged to bring fresh cut flowers and greenery which will be placed on the outdoor “Living Cross.”

Royston Church of God will hold a Good Friday and Communion service April 14 at 7 p.m. Easter Sunday service will be April 16 at 11 a.m. The church is at 121 Freedom Church Road and Highway 17 South. For more information, call 706-245-5800, Monday through Friday,  9:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. 

Faith Valley Holiness Church in Royston will hold a Resurrection Revival April 14-16. Services will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday. Featured speaker will be Pastor Hubert Carter of Royston. The church is in the Harrison community, just off of Wildcat Bridge Road. Carroll’s Methodist Church will hold a cemetery beautification day April 15 from 9 a.m. until noon at the church at 588 Carroll’s Church Road in Lavonia. The day will include the planting of daffodils, so volunteers are asked to bring a favorite bulb to plant. For more information, call 706-308-8025.

New Bethel Baptist Church will hold an Easter Egg Hunt April 15 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on the church ballfield for children up to the fifth grade. The church is at 1310 New Bethel Road in Carnesville.

Poplar Springs Methodist Campground will host an Easter egg hunt April 15 at noon. Light refreshments will be served. Those planning to attend should bring eggs to hide. Some eggs will be provided.

New Franklin Christian Church will hold an Easter egg hunt April 15 at 2 p.m. for children in sixth grade and younger. The church is at 4244 New Franklin Church Road in Canon.

The Grove Church will hold a program of Easter music April 15 at 7 p.m. at 1702 Grove Level Church Road in Maysville. Dress is casual.

Danielsville Gospel Barn will hold a singing April 15 at 7 p.m., featuring The Gospel Gentlemen from Ila and The Spiritual Voices from Dahlonega. For more information, call 706-206-7574. 

Price Chapel Church of God and Providence Methodist Church will will hold a joint Easter Sunrise Service April 16 at 6:45 a.m. at Price Chapel Church of God.  Pastor Doug Brown present the message.  Breakfast will be served afterwards in the fellowship hall. The church is on Highway 77 between Hartwell and I-85.

New Bethel Baptist Church will hold an Easter Sunrise Service April 16 at 7 a.m. at the crosses, weather permitting. The church is at 1310 New Bethel Road in Carnesville.

Lavonia Presbyterian Church will sponsor a Community Sunrise Service April 16 at 7 a.m. at the Lavonia Gazebo.

Poplar Springs Methodist Campground will host an Easter Sunrise Service April 16 at 7 a.m. The Rev. Bob Claytor will bring the message.

Pennington Chapel UMC and Trinity UMC will hold an Easter sunrise service April 16 at 7 a.m., with breakfast following. Easter worship will begin at 10:30 a.m. Both services will be held at Trinity UMC in Sandy Cross. The church is at 2480 Athens Road in Royston.

New Franklin Christian Church will hold an Easter Sonrise Service April 16 at 7 a.m. A light breakfast will follow. The church Easter cantata will be held at 11 a.m. The church is at 4244 New Franklin Church Road in Canon.

New Hope Baptist Church will hold a Son Rise Service April 16 at 7 a.m. Breakfast will follow in the church fellowship hall. Easter Sunday worship service will be held at 11 a.m. The church is at 1679 Shirley Road in Royston. For more information, call 706-371-2052.
